Did he check the fan sender units or thermostat?

Bongo went really well after mechanic looked at it. However, whilst travelling to Dawlish Warren the Bongo actually over-heated - steam etc. Called RAC, broken thermostat and some disparaging comments from Gerry the RAC bloke about how bad Bongos were! In garage being fixed.

I'd personally have some disparaging comments about your mechanic/seller, I hope he's going to see to it that all costs are covered, if he didn't even check the stat Let's hope it's not caused any major damage This is an instance where the Mason Alarm would have kicked in & warned you.

Yes, it's all covered in the guarantee. However, this is the reason why I've been looking for a local mechanic with a knowledge and interest in Bongos. Once the Bongo is on the road again, we'll take it to Allans in Plymouth to check it over. I really don't think the bloke who sold the Bongo to us knows anything about them (very amenable though), however his mechanic looks like a butcherer of Bongos: he makes me rather nervous!

Kirsty - could you give me the link for the Mason Alarm please? Just been reading up on it and worried that Mr Mason will stop production before I manage to get one.

Here you go - http://www.townace.plus.com/ie/ietemga2.htm email him & get him to stick you on the list for the next batch, also consider the Low Coolant alarm from Haydn Callow on here http://www.coolantalarm.co.uk/ if you're not sure of your mechanic's abilities, it's sensibe to protect yourself as much as possible to try & prevent a problem becoming very expensive, neither are difficult to fit.

And Haydn does a combined low/high coolant alarm and engine block temp gauge which will do pretty much the same job as a Mason alarm if you need to crack on and fit something.

As well as his free add on bit for members that sorts the gauge out which doesn't quite match up to the Mason, but everything you can do to keep an eye on what's going on is a good thing.
