If it the workings of the alt thats goosed I got an alt in bits...leccy part ok( rear half) It's just a worn front bearing that was the reason I replaced the alt. Give us a shout if interested. ( F.O.C )

Thanks for the offer, that's what I love about this forum you are the second person to offer me a donor part! I'm going to dig to the back of my shed where I think I still have my first alternator that died from bearing failure and try frankentsteining them first. I'm thinking if it was a short circuit which killed it, then it surely couldn't be the windings, I'm hoping it could be the diode pack which should be an easy swap(?)

I use a Cheap Electric Garden Blower £19.99 When i clean my motorbike that got a mate out of a similar situation. That and wd40
