Thanks for asking whether it is fixed - but still not.

I ordered a set of fuel pump seals from the Club, and got my garage to have a go at it with the instruction sheet on the club site.

They replaced, and I still seem to have a tiny fuel leak. White smoke when starting after leaving it for some time, but runs like a dream once going. Glowplugs are fine. Replaced fuel filter in case that was badly fitted.

One problem with the fuel seals was that there were four identical seals, and the mechanic could only find two points where they fitted. He said there were seals of other sizes that might have been needed that I didn't have.

Anybody got any more details on what seals should be needed? Does it vary from diesel model to diesel model? I asked Ian at the club, and he answered reasonably that he supplied four the same, as that was what someone had told him was the right thing...

Clearly if there are other points that might need new seals, they could be where the leak is. Talk about being careful what you wish for "If only this leak was bigger, I could find the damn thing...".

Sorry to hear your problem is still there. If you remember at the start of this thread I had a similar sounding problem. This is where I am with it all.
My usual garage suggested a problem with the fuel injectors and referred me to a diesel engine specialist. He first of all adjusted the injector timing, which kind of made it better, but the problem was still there. It also made the Bongo sound like a tractor! He's since changed this back, and when I suggested the fuel seals he agreed this could be the problem, but told me it was a fiddly job and to save on labour what he normally does in cases such as that is put a non-return valve on the fuel filter, which is what he has done. This seems to have cured the 'bouncy' starts and black smoke issue , although every now and again I do get a feeling of a slight (only slight mind) judder and a bit of smoke. I also at the moment have a leak in the exhaust manifold where a stud has sheared off, so following tomorrow when I'm having 8 new studs and a new gasket, as well as the EGR blanked off, I'm hoping all my troubles will have gone! Will report back on that.
