But the end game appears to be that no TM2 owners want to play and obviously are suffering from apathy........ bit like the amount of folks who can be bothered to turn out at elections......... oh well time to put the TM2 and it's readings to the bottom draw

I guess we won't really know if owners want to play until someone gives them a football pitch to play on. But there appears to be apathy at the supply end about doing that

I fitted a TM2 had it two years it works fine, it's gone off twice, once the top hose blew and once on the way back from 'Nookey' after RTTS09 I was doing a ton and it topped the high setting, slowed me down for a while and it's connected into a spare threaded hole on the centre left side of the head and the guage is in the centre cubby, the top setting is 112

OK here are my readings.
I have the TM-2 mounted on the back of the cyclinder head (lowest bolt hole) as per the latest instructions.
Most of the time it reads about 85 - 86.
If I am pushing it a bit upto about 90-92.
The highest I have seen is 95 when stuck in a traffic jam. Having only recently had the Bongo and being paranoid I stuck the heaters on that point to try and reduce it a bit.

When this came up before there was some discussion on what are the normal temperature ranges for a TM2. The answer I remember, was you set it at what was normal for your Bongo, just take it to the hottest temperature in normal running.
If it went outside this range then worry. Not very helpful if you are setting up one for the first time.I asked if an initial setting that way could just be too hot and reflecting running with a compromised cooling system without indicating there were problems. There was no clear answer.
I have set mine on a V6 at 89. Fitted according to instructstions and checked by Haydn himself. This covers all situations so far. It has only blipped at this twice, both when stuck in almost stationary traffic and in both cases the temperature dropped back quickly. Normally it runs in the mid to high 70s. Average motorway temperature around 76. From this I am guessing the cooling system is in reasonable shape.
Haydn might have some better data when he returns from holiday.

Looks like the footballers are coming out to play
Steve - It'd be good if you got emails for those interested then sent a suitable chart (excel) they could record key data (model, age, sensor position etc) plus temp figures in different driving and weather conditions, which you could then collate. It would be slicker (and easier for you) if there was a self-completion online form with a database storage device behind but I guess you might wait forever for that
All this is enough to tempt me into fitting a TM2 (or similar - no reason why a survey can't take data from other device types as long as details and sensor position are recorded)
Well done that man

Hi Mike - As you know, I've been working on the cooling system fact sheet. It's looking quite reasonable at the moment. I have been delving into all things related and currently waiting for James to add the ECU info. I have produced a composite electrical schematic of all circuits conected to the ECU which is showing some quite interesting interrelationships between different circuits, and am currently waiting for James to come up with the ECU internals. Like a doing a massive jigsaw puzzle without the benefit of knowing what the big picture is. Results should be interesting.
I'm also involved in a gizmo designed by another BF member which will sense precisely when/if the stat moves. This will put to bed one of the unknowns - NO DOUBTS.
Because I am heavily involved in that lot, I don't really have capacity to do much more at the moment. I was rather hoping someone else would step up to the plate.
The reason I asked the original question was so that I can compare the theory with the facts.

Which brings us back to the suppliers, who one might hope would show an interest

Didn't want to have a dig but I agree with you.

Such a shame because the TM-2 (IMHO) is a good piece of kit. Bloody ugly but it does what I want.

Silly thing is it would be a good marketing ploy, handled correctly. But what do I care

Unless all readings are taken from the same position on the engine the results can't be correlated.
My thoughts on this piece of kit are well known, as its saved some engines it has done its job.
I still maintain that it is reading effect and not the cause. Ask yourself where the ECU monitors the info it uses to control injector opening and advance, this should point you in the direction of where best to monitor from.

enough said..........
However....... I do think that there should be a sticky where those with the TM2 can be off in one place and comparing notes together

Hi,
Positioned at rear of cylinder head,
alarm set at 100.(Mason set at 5)
Normal running in this weather 85-88.
