garage attached clear fuel pipes to see where air is in system. When warm air is being sent back from the pump itself.
He said could be an internal crack, seals, so suggested if could find a good value replacement then roll with that!
next stage. hunt down a pump!

In addition to ebygum32 and tonic who are both breaking Bongos, you could try Bellhill notors who break them, plus keep an eye on ebay as I've seen them come up on there. Not heard of one cracking before mind you, and it may be that replacing seals might cure it. Good luck

ordered a used pump of a one breaking. 89quid including postage which aint bad. Also ordered some new seals to put on just in case.
I've just noticed though from so much poking around the engine ive got no1 nut missing off the manifold on exhaust and it slightly blows from it. (soots up!) oh joy.

No 1 manifold stud is a common issue, do you get a squealing noise at all? If there's half the stud still left in there, you may be able to get it out with a stud extractor, I think Ian sells repalcement studs in the club shop?

saw this pic on another post. My bongo has oil all away along the bolts on the main head whereas the one above is clean!
does that mean my oily engine has another problem????

You mean on the rocker cover gasket? Common issue, you may be able to nip the bolts up, not a huge job to get a new gasket or just clean it off & see if it gets worse?
Re the stud extractor - they work by drilling it out - hence the suggestion

, google "stud extractor".

**keep me right

i'll investigate further thanks

*actualy chuckles out loud. That's me dyslexia coming through

.
So:
1. see if i can nip the bolts a bit tighter
2. look into getting an extractor
Thanks again

Hi Tom, most of us have been there.
In the early days of Bongownership most time, money & braincells are spent sorting out neglected problems from previous owners.
Unless you spend top dollar from an expensive dealer with a comprehensive warranty - there will be teething troubles until such time as you have covered most likely faults & can get more confident in your new member of the family.
Bear in mind the base vehicle that you have is a brilliantly designed, well engineered machine that will outlast most of its counterparts by a long way BUT its already had a good ten years or more in unknown hands & has possibly been abused at some point in its life.
Expect problems, coz you'll get them anyway but take heart at the support available on here that can turn a migrane into an itch, an expensive garage bill into a cheap self fix but more importantly - a frown into a smile.

Hey Kirsty was already on the screwfix website already

hope they'll do they job. Thanks for the link all the same.
mister monkey, your right and that is what I have been telling myself
and although it came with 6mnth warranty n the garage is paying for the replacement pump it's just frustrating i cant go play out in it yet - had so many overnighters planned climbing and mountaineering with the springer spaniel. alas that hasn't happened yet. (had 2weeks holiday planned to use the bongo booo).
With regard to the leaking rocker cover think i'll just let the garage have a look. Would have no idea where to start trying to replace the gasket.

I'd let them sort the manifold stud as well
