No worries - I know that. I embarrass myself the way I keep saying mentioning LCAs, but I don't wish a cracked head (like wot I have got) on any new unsuspecting new owner, plus bad incidents smear the good reputation of a great car.

I was interested to read about your turbo water jacket seal.
I have been losing some coolant over the past 4 months, about 200ml a week.
Can you tell me more about how you discovered the turbo seal failure? What were the symptoms?

Hi this sounds interesting to me too. After all of the above advice I have been out there today looking for pinoholes but to no avail. I do have alot of 'mess' around a small pipe with coiled tape on it that comes out of the bottom of the turbo and goes into the block. The prominant fat pipe that curls from the turbo, down and towards the front of the car is also oily and has white looking water marks on it. I would like to know what this pipe carries, is it coolant? I shall try and get some photos to explain what I mean but please do tell me how you confirmed the turbo seal had gone.

you might be able to establish if its the turbo by disconnecting the two water pipes that go to it from the engine. block these with a bolt and monitor over a couple of days, do not drive it for any distance or leave it in this state for more than a few days or you will definitely cook the turbo.
this is what i did with ours but without the coolant pipes connected the oil seals will overheat and bang goes the turbo. a secondhand one was sourced for around 150 and they are easy to change.
the big semi circle pipe on the turbo can get oily if the big clips arnt tight enough.
the other big pipe i think goes down to the inter cooler but im not 100% on that lushprojects say 1312 or is it 1311.
others may be one with some better info

The 2 large bore plastic pipes are air inlet & outlet, the coolant only flows through the two small bore rubber hoses (about 12mm OD?)

Personally I wouldn't risk running the turbo without coolant at all, Try doing a pressure test, quite easy to do yourself -
http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=38823 ,you should be able to see where it's leaking from. you could bypass the turbo with a bit of the right size hose while doing a pressure test to eliminate it, if a leak isn't obvious, but you will have to bleed the system afterwards to make sure you haven't introduced an air lock.

im was saying that how we found out the problem with the turbo, it lasted bout two weeks before it went bang. the risks are high, but i wasnt sure how else to do it. at least i know now if this one gives problems after 3 yrs service.
and i can say after using the same kit for pressure testing at the last meeting, it works, found a leak on ours which had been annoying me for long enough.

Ok, it's booked in tommorrow for pressure test, compression test and UV light treatment. Heres hoping, as we've just booked the crossing to switzerland in a month.
I'll let you know the outcome.
