Solonoid  We had an issues with that this weekend, but opposite to you. Ours wouldn't stop! My partner is posting up about it later tonight. However, luckily the van was under warranty and they were great and sorted it out today :)

If it is the belt, its a rare thing indeed. No idea of the added damage possibilities

Its in the hands of a Greater Power now.

Would be nice if I can get a smile back on my face before Friday - we're due to be at Debbies meet in Angelsey. [-o<

Hope its low cost and hassle free :)

Hi Chris. Hope you will get it sorted. Afraid we have no suggestions but thought we would let you know that we are thinking of you. FINGERS CROSSED. We are in the middle of putting alternator belts on....one went. Also A SUSPECT OIL LEAK TO BE DETECTED. Bongo's are like children....they never stop causing you some grief or other.

CAMSHAFT SNAPPED.

](*,) :-& ](*,)

On the plus side (theres always a plus side) Max Headroom has driven up to Yorkshire from Gloucester this afternoon & bought me his old cracked head with perfectly serviceable camshaft plus new cambelt & tensioner.

Not even a word of warning though, just called me with the bad news about the cam & then announced he was standing in front of my Bongo Bless him!!! =D> =D> =D>

Yet again above & beyond the call of duty. A late nomination for Bongonaught Of The Year for sure. :D

So darkish cloud, potential silver lining. Hopefully on the road again for friday.

I am sorry to say but my first thought is the cam belt. All the symptoms, sudden stop, lumpy & sounding strange when cranking & of course no go. :(

I would like you to prove me wrong on this.

Sorry bit confused, did you mean that the cambelt going has caused the cam to snap?

Possibly one of those questions that will never be answered John.

New complete genuine Mazda fully built up head in October '07. Probably done around 45,000 miles since. Regular oil/filter changes but usually driven with a "sense of purpose" & most weekly use has been relatively short - 6 mile each way - commmuting . . . Cold engine being driven hard on a fairly hilly rat-run, can't have helped.

(Even so, it could be sand from Blackpool on Sunday - That stuff got everywhere. Might get my legal department to start proceedings against Blackpool Council.)

On the most part I think its just down to bad luck but will see if my Chief Engineer can come up with any ideas when doing the rebuild.

Despite the fact that this has spiraled from a ten quid solenoid to a fairly hefty labour charge, the help I've had from The Gang has made me feel a lot better about the whole sorry mess. I'm so glad I never bought that Elgrand.

Thanks again you lot.
