Thanks for the info, that new years day trip to the seaside sounds a good day out, would we need to book seats?

I'll ask tomorrow , purely a guess but i'd guess they won't because there going to be serving food on board.

Other things in the area that may be worth a look are :

http://www.tropiquaria.co.uk/ about 15-20mins from campsite

In minehead you have butlins , there's the waverley paddle steamer which is the last sea going paddle steamer or theres the motor cruiser balmoral which do trips along the exmoor coast or over to lundy island or over the bristol channel to wales.

Go for a drive up onto exmoor and you could go looking for the exmoor ponies before heading back down somwhere for a cream tea.

There's the birds of prey experience places:
http://www.exmoorfalconry.co.uk/exmoor- ... efault.htm

http://www.exmoorforestbirdsofprey.co.u ... iences.htm

Your campsite is right under the quantock hills so if you want a walk or bike ride thats a good place to head to , if your willing to travel maybe 40-50mins you could get to yeovil and visit the fleet air arm museum and also the haynes motor museum.

Few answers to peoples questions:

1- Yes you need to pre book new years day fish and chips train phone 01643 704996
2- Yes you can take dogs but not in the buffet car with the food although if ennough pre book they might give you your own carriage

3- You can take the trains from crowcombe heathfield station which is a short walk from where your camping.

I'm going to your nearest pub (carew arms , crowcombe) in a minute to see if they allow children in.

The carew arms accepts children and dogs in the bar as it's a 'walkers' pub , there doing a 3 course xmas meal for £17.50 and the log fire is really warm.
It's the nearest pub to your campsite but is still a 20-30 min walk across fields so if it was me i'd take it in turns having 1 person drive.
Next nearest pubs are the farmers arms another little country pub with a roaring fire, haven't been here for food in ages so can't comment, next nearest is the blue ball at triscombe which is suposed to be god for food, although the one i go to for a nice meal is the rising sun at west bagborough (on top of the hills) or the lethbridge arms in bishops lydeard ( bottom of the hills).
Anymore questions just ask and i'll see if i can get the answers.

That's fair enough , the weather has been cold the last week bit of snow maybe weds or thurs but nothing too much, although up on the top of the quantocks it's been very icy compared to at the bottom of the quantocks.
Have you got any plans if the weathers not playing ball for your stay?
Also is the site doing any day visitor passes?

Happy to book 2 seats on the New Year's Day train, but no food as Mrs B is veggie. Don't know if it will be an 'All In' ticket or if we can book train only.

You book seats/food via minehead station 01643 704996 but you can catch the train from crowcombe heathfield where your camping or bishops lydeard which is the main station the opposite end of the line from the other main station at minehead.
Fingers crossed it warms up for you , it was -4 all today !
