I was born in Newcastle! I lived in the centre before moving to Lowfell, Newbiggin by-the-sea and Wideopen. I moved to Leeds with my parents when I was 14 and became friendly with a lad whose parents had a caravan at Studfold Farm at Lofthouse near Pately Bridge. I spent most of my free time there walking in the hills, fishing in the river Nidd and wild camping on the tops. Happy days!

The area is still quiet and mainly unspoiled by commercialisation.

I hope to buy a cottage in Darley next month which will become a part of my 10 year plan. When the kids are up and away I intend to move into it and become as self sufficient as possible in a beautiful area with virtually no one around me!

Any time you'd like the tour just give me a shout.

The first thing I did when I bought a car was buy a tent!!! Still have camping stuff too.

We started off with the tent and camping gear, but as we bought extra bits for camping, the car was no longer big enough, hence buying the bongo

I have just let a mate have my tarp, mozzi net and hammock as I am using the Bongo now for my expeditions! I will miss getting away into the "wilds" but am more than happy with the new found comfort of the Bongo. I am getting old!

I must admit to it being very cosy sleeping in a bongo. You feel very safe and secure but sharing with the dog could be tricky when you needed to use the loos in the night and the dog leapt out with you!

Try the Richmond area,near enough to the A1 for trips in the Bongo,but far enough away,not too remote,plenty of shops and a nice ride into Swaledale,Reeth etc.

When God made the Yorkshire, he gave us beautiful hills, stunning views, clear rivers, a fantastic coastline,the best beer in the country, and warm, friendly people.

The only mistake he made was siting us next to Lancashire....

PS - Do it, friends from the south who have moved "oop north" have said it's the best thing they've done.

If you want a base to look around from (other than a Bongo) a pal of mine rents out holiday houses in Skipton and Pateley Bridge town centres - if you want a good rate PM me and I'll see what he'll do for off season prices.

If you want a room, foc, in Pudsey, PM me, your welcome to stay as long as you like to nosey round the area.

I just have to get my brave head on to drive up, not the most couragous of drivers out of my comfort zone.

thinking about your reflexology maybe research areas based around that for starters -Harrogate is the most obvious but probably has lots of competition -perhaps somewhere that has a leisure centre near-by they might rent space for you to practice within the centre and it might give you a clue as to what people are in to and prepared to pay for. In the more remote areas like mine you could be left with the traditional dales farmer who isnt going to pay a penny or let his wife pay a penny for anything like that.In some areas there are plenty of rich retired who will.The area to live and the area to practice are related -you have to consider how you will get around in winter -they arnt too hot on road gritting.Settle might be a possabilty it is just on the edge of the national park which means marginally cheaper housing (though they are hoping to extend their border ) has rail and train links and is bypassed by the main yorks/cumbria road so a priority 1 for gritting.There is a swimming pool not sure what else it offers,amateur dramatics/photography/college -a Green community group etc -quite a friendly place (and fish and chips to die for) -might be an idea to look at public transport for your first visit - national express come to Skipton from London or railways too leeds.
