Bongo Fury

I'll pop it round to the local garage for a check. It's only a mile or so away, and its been squealing for the last 1500 miles, so hopefully 1 or 2 more won't make much difference.

If its the manifold stud or rattling pulley, I guess I'll have to get it to Bell Hill, but a loose belt or alternator bearing the local garage should be able to do it. I just don't want them touching anything to do with the cooling system. A thought - if it is a bearing, couldn't it just as easily be the water pump as the alternator? Would fixing the bearing (if that's what it is) mean a replacement alternator or water pump?

I was about to ask the same kind of question to the board when I saw this thread. Having listened I 'think' this is what I can hear on our Bongo but part of me wonders if I'm convincing myself tbh.

I will try to get round to 'recording' it. I only noticed it on Saturday. Once started she sounded a bit 'clunkier' than usual (it sounds as if the sound is coming from under the bonnet) and cannot be sure if I hear a squeak or not.

I will try to give it a run and see if it makes it when fully warmed through and let her idle to see if it sounds the same.

Be keen to hear what the garage says after you've had your check dvisor.

had a bad noise on mine

a mate squirted grease on the idles pully to the ac unit and it went away for a while

still waiting on mazda for the kit to do a long term fix

could as said be alternator bearing

Just left it at the garage, and waiting to hear what they have to say. The squeal is only apparent when idling, on acceleration it disappears.

that was the same with mine and the pulley ...only on tickover

Just a slipping belt - No wallet damage

Checked mine yesterday - No.1 stud broken, soot all around the area.

So, it's booked into my local engineering workshop for a remove, skim and refitting.

Parts are on order from the club shop - but as it's closed until the 21st, I might have to wait until after Glencoe to get the work done.

I'll report back on how it all goes and costs!

I also have been experiencing a lot of squealing for a couple of minutes when the engine is cold (worse in cold temperatures) and it's been getting worse. It started happening about 3 weeks after I had all three belts changed (it's been 7 months now-don't use the bongo very much in the winter!). Can anyone confirm whether it's a slipping belt or the No.1 manifold stud? No sigh of sut on passenger side.

If it is a slipping belt is this a job for a diy mechanic? Any advice to ascertain which belt might be the culprit?

Does the noise stop if you spray wd40 on the belts while making the noise?
if so its the belts so may as well change/ check them all. any one should be able to do it but a garage will do so faster
