Bongobits can't get one for at least a week.

Gonna ring Bell Hill in the morning but if anyone has any swift solutions, feel free to PM me asap.

Has ebygum still got his breaking Bongo? Also, Adrian at Japan Direct has a wrecked tintop at his works - no idea if the propshaft U/J is still available (not a common failure so...) but maybe worth a call?

Propshaft u/j failure sounds like the start of more trouble I'm afraid - like VC failure

When you get it back, do a VC check - jack up the nearside front wheel, put a large socket and bar onto the hub nut and try to turn the wheel - it should turn approx 1/3 of a turn then stop. If its doing that then the VC is ok. Moving less than that indicates a solid viscous coupling which will eventually wreck the tyres/diff/front prop u/js

You scare me sometimes with your knowledge of what might go wrong next!!

However - I'll give that a go, its something that even my small furry hands can manage.

Hopefully all will be well but if not I'm sure the collective on here will find a suitably inexpensive cure.

Yer not the only one, if it's any consolation Mr M.. I've done 1000's of clicks since my new front prop with no apharent adverse effect regarding tires/drive... However, i respect Dandy's knowledge & will be (when the weather allows) giving this tip a try...! 8) 8-[

The Faithful Hound is now back home. It was indeed, the rear u/j so Francophile gets a bunch of bannanas as a prize for the first call on this thread. =D>

Bell Hill got the relevant parts delivered next day at a reasonable cost & all is now, once again, well.

One of the benefits I get from these times of angst is that great feeling when you get back in the saddle after a week or two of not being able to drive the thing.

Its easy to forget just how solid, grunty & drop dead gorgeous these things really are but almost straight away, that commanding drivers position & confidence underfoot - comes flooding back. \:D/

Nice to have the Old Boy back in the stable, just a shame that I missed all the fun with the snow (again :( ).

P.S. Does anyone know how much of a vehicle needs to be replaced before it qualifies for a newer registration plate???

Then again, unless all the parts were new, DVLC might still rate it as needing an old reg. number - you can't dodge Big Brother 8)

Allan's just had a new customer's Bongo 'recovered' to him with exactly that problem.
I can't see a 'factsheet' about VC's... Do we have one?
From reading the advice on the forum, the VC is under additional stress when the tyres are the wrong diameter, so it's important to get that right.
Another forum gives this advice:
Ways to keep your VC in good shape:
a) All tires must be the same diameter all the way around. To insure this, rotate tires frequently to keep the wear even. Only replace tires in sets of two or four.
b) Keep the rolling radius matched between all four tires when determining tire inflation pressures.
c) Never ever use a spare tire that is a different size, even for a short distance.
Allan's not here so I can't pick his brains... Is that advice also relevant to the Bongo? :?:

Well, I'm not holding me breath, there will be more problems down the line somewhere for sure but I'm less stressed out these days when these irritations occur. Every little thing that gets fixed is one less eventuall headache.

My Bongo is akin to a tempestuous child or a stormy marriage. Sometimes its a bit of a Love - Hate relationship.

Its all part of the Bigger Picture however, the more you put into something, the more you get out of it. :D

Must add that I'd be lost without the Crisis Counselling & wealth of experience from you lot though.

The rear prop ( on my 4wd ) has a grease nipple so the two halves can be lubed internally for when it needs
to change length a bit to accommodate suspension travel etc.

I'm sure some of you know this but have many pumped in new grease recently?

I only mention it coz I was looking under mine the other day while it was up on ramps and got the guy
to grease it ( took all of 30 secs ). 1st time since I've had it ( 4yrs ), who knows before that.
