There you go Dunslair, use the leftover foil from cooking the chicken and you will get the envy of other Bongo owners
On the serious side I suppose fitting new rubber mounts should solve the smell problem as these mounts are designed to stand high exhust temps so it could be the rubber compound is breaking down. The're fairly cheap and easy to get so I should buy a couple anyway - just too tight and don't like crawling under in this cold weather

Thlis sounds a possibility si I've ordered some silicon mounts from the elocal Kwik fit when theve been dfitted will report on the results.

Give it ago - remember the foil must stay tightly wrapped around all the time, if the smell comes back I bet you will find the ally has become loose.

It might be worthwhile after a run at NIGHT (in the dark)let your vehicle tick over for about 5-10 mins then have a look at your CAT.

hi,
Had the silicon rubbers fitted tonight on the way home from work, just maybe they've done the job as no smell on reaching home, will keep a check over the next few days just to confirm.

update on on the fix
seems ok slight smell of the lube that was used to ease the new silicons on, fingers still crossed but I think its cured

Funnily enough we have just started experiencing the same hot rubbery smell on our V6. Bongo was put on a ramp yesterday and OH found that there is a rubber pipe a bit close to the exhaust. This will be sorted after he has fitted new front springs to the MX5 which went with a bang when I was about to get in it yesterday.
