Re: No juice at the glowplugs...any ideas?
make sure you fix it with either another fuseable link or a temporary high value fuse.......DON'T just bypass it with a bit of wire.....you may set your bongo on fire.
Re: No juice at the glowplugs...any ideas?
At the moment Haydn, accidentally setting fire to my Bongo isn't such a bad idea!...
Will get a proper fused link and modify it to suit the Bongo.
I've traced the problem...Northern Bongalow and Wonkanoby were spot on!!
Just taken a plug out and inspected the rail.....
When I put the new plugs in they were the shorter ones, this means they don't clear the rail enough and they have worn a small hole in the rubber insulation in the rail and shorted it blowing the fusible link..
Now, is there a mod for this or do I have to send the plugs back for longer ones??
Hats off to all of you....How useful is this forum!!!!

Hi,you can extend the plugs using spark plug tops and set screws cut to size.Aunt Trumpet wrote:At the moment Haydn, accidentally setting fire to my Bongo isn't such a bad idea!...![]()

Or, as I did, gently tap the fuel pipes down a little, away from the bar.

I had exactly the same problem took me a while to sort it out. Your rail will have shorted on the injector tubes, not straight away as it takes a little while for the rails to wear the insulation away. I swopped my glow plugs for the correct ones, however there were a batch of Bongo's that had the longer plugs fitted as they ran out of the shorter ones during manufacture. You probably had the longer ones fitted.
you need to make a small clearance between the rail and the pipes and any other bits it can short on. I used the nuts of the old glow plugs as a spacer by running it down the thread first. This was not quite enough so I had to slighty bend each tab on the rail to change the angle a bit and this gave about half a mm clearance. Don't forget to put insulating tape over any worn through bits on the rail.
That was the rail sorted but the fuseable link had gone. It is just a thick bit of wire if you strip the insulation between the spade connector and the tab which fits to the battery terminal you will see. This can be reconnected with a crimped connector or a replacement can be got from most places. pretty much any fuseable link for a diesel should be ok.

Well chaps, I was considering using washers and spacers to get the clearance between pipe and rail but after a quick word with Bongobits, whom I bought the short ones from, they agreed to swap them for the longer ones...
As for the fusible link I went to a local auto electrician and bought an inline spade fuse connector and associated eyelet for the battery terminal and connector for the other side. It was a bit pricey at £3.26 all in...
but well worth it. Its much the same as whats been done in the link in the first post above.
This must be a mod well worth doing for everyone because if your link goes while you're away from home how do you replace it and get going again!?? At least with this you can just put in a 30a fuse and away you go again.....
Thanks again to all that helped, I never would have found out what happened without your knowledge....
