Re: Engine temperature pop quiz!
OK, just come back from a bat up the 46 taking out an Astra van along the way...

Pulled in a lay-by & took some temps from here & the engine side....

The needle had rose to about where the red arrow is, but by the time i had pulled over it was already starting to cool (the rad fans were running).. Having the drivers seat ready to lift (just the 2 front clips holding it down.) the temp was 81.9 off the top hose..
& 79.4 off the engine..
Getting home.. (when i took the gauge pic.) All in all a 22 mile trip. i got 84.3 top hose, 86.1 engine...

The Mason is set to peep just beyond the red arrow...!

Re: Engine temperature pop quiz!
I have always maintained from my own observations that there is little differance between block temp and coolant temp (around +/- 2 degrees once everything has warmed up) and there is probably only around 10 sec delay between the 2 temps....
Having a temp sensor within the top hose is ideal, tapeing the sensor to the top hose is almost as good to all intents and bolting it to the block away from the exaust is acceptable and does the job very well.

This gets wilder & wilder baby....
Removed fan sensor plugs checked everything is coming on as it should... Ran my wife's hair dryer over the scav fan sensor.. all good!
But when i remove the cab courtesy light fuse number 1 my glow plug light flashes, & when i start the engine it continues to flash.... Not only that but when i do the scav fan short test on the connector when this fuse is pulled, it don't come on!!!
It also knocks out the memory on my radio....
Neither do my cab lights....
All is fine with the fuse replaced.... I don't have an LB.

That fuse covers an awful lot of things, not just the light!jaylee wrote:But when i remove the cab courtesy light fuse number 1

Thats the same sort of reading (ie the mason mod temp gauge) I get when hammering it up the motorway on a hot day, but on normal driving I get the needle sitting a fraction below the 12 oclock mark.jaylee wrote:OK, just come back from a bat up the 46 taking out an Astra van along the way...![]()

Also thats very cheap for the temp gun, when I was looking at them they were around £40 to £50 depending where you purchased from. They wasn't the same as yours but same principal
what you need is a midget sitting in the passenger footwell ready to take some reading whilst in motion. But I must state no midget must be harmed or put at risk whilst undertaken such drastic temperature reading.

Cheers Geoff! You wouldn't happen to know where (if at all) the relay is located for the scavenger fan would you???
No problem At all... Just a plan! & it don't involve an override switch Mike..
