It is really hard to do. As I said i couldn't do it. If the Engine is getting too hot she should drive it around to cool off. Is there a strong man who can do it for her ?

It helps if you use something like a tea towel to hold onto the actual exhaust pipe as you hold your foot on it as you can't just push on it or it could break.

She is going to try blocking inlet with a piece of card and then try towel over exhaust

She has to also make an airtight seal over the exhaust as well. Will be up for another 20 minutes if she wants to call, I've PM'd her Chris's mobile number

Try shoving a potato up the exhaust and wedging something over that, BE CAREFUL as it may create a mortar bomb and blast out.

Alternatively, drive it to the Bl**dy AA or leave it running?

Bloody nightmare... I remember only too well being on my own at Reading at night trying to bloody stop the bongo, just couldn't do it. Ours started getting hot so I had to drive it around until umbongoChris got there and managed to stop it again... think he could stop any bongo after all the practice he got on our trip to France

Well done, if the solenoid has gone then get in to touch with ady (northern bongolow) he had a solenoid set for sale in the auction at the bash and it didn't sell so it should be available still.

Glad its all sorted now

Hope you retrieved the thing that got sucked into the air intake. Once the solenoid is sorted, it may take a while to get started again as there will be air in the system, but by all accounts it is self-priming so should fire up after a few attempts. Dependant on where you are in Cornwall, Allans in Plymouth may be able to assist with getting it repaired: http://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk.

Strangely enough, I was talking to Ady (Northern Bongolow) at the Bash yesterday morning about exactly the same problem you had. I hope we didn't jinx you :?
