I sent them another email questioning the rating and it's suitability for a Bongo and got the following reply: "Have spoken to management they said we have supplied you with over your requirements because this alternator does charge up to 120 amps which is still a lot more than 90amp all we can do is you send it back to us and we will refund you.

Yes you are the first person to question this as we sell about 30 of them a month."

Who is buying them all and not questioning the fact that they are wrong?

that's BS, cos they were challenged on it just this week by at least one person  But TBH, I suspect most peeps won't even be aware it should be 90A not 80A, Freewheeler hadn't noticed, I picked up on it as soon as I saw it, along with the fact its a 3 wire converted to a 2 wire with a fly lead & physically smaller than the original Hitachi WL01 18 300 that I lent him to take abroad as a back up. There are also 70A versions around that will fit from the Ranger/ Mazda B2500/Mazda MPV.
I wonder what the original spec of the Hitachi one is? I suspect that will supply more than the rated 90A, but for how long?

Apparantly that well known variant the 3litre V6 Mazda Bongo uses a (1 pulley) 70A alternator - http://www.startermotor-alternator-stor ... 5659-p.asp
