See my previous answer Haydn
Mason alarm, not a coolant alarm.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Because "Ace answers" is what's written on the front of the mason alarm

I think I saw a topic a few weeks ago and Dave will not be making anymore once he sells his current stock

That leak is a common one and also hard to find, usually erupts from my experience when the engine get really hot then "re-seals"" itself when the engine cools.... until the really hot engine phase hence small loss off coolant followed by eruptions and puddles under the van but no signs when the covers are lifted.

Which will be a great shame.....but he did say he will make the project "open source" so people can build their own...haydn callow wrote:I think I saw a topic a few weeks ago and Dave will not be making anymore once he sells his current stock

Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Now that video of a leak on the same hose as mine was informative
but the previous post of leak when hot leaks then seals when cool is not one I have ever come across in any of my vehicles and boy have I had a few. Having said that it describes the problem exactly, even at 72 I am still learning. Unfortunately I no longer have a workshop or any place to do repairs
but have found a local Garage which I went to today to have a look at. Got to admit clean and spotless workshop speak english, very helpful when I showed them photos of Bongo and where leak is. I supply part, they supply coolant, gestimate €25/30.00. plus cost of coolant. Looking at what was in repair shop and on forecourt they seem to do modern cars, 4wheelers and light commercial vehicles.
I did mention that Bongo's can be hard to bleed, look on Mechanic's face said it all 'AMATEUR '

Re: Weird coolant leak !!
Show him where the bleed hose is....and download the instructions.
If he does not do it right it will end up costing you...not him.....so many garages treat the Bongo like any other vehicle when it comes to filling up with coolant.....then a few days/weeks down the line you have to start looking for a cylinder head.
It might also be worth getting him to watch the vidio's on utube...search bleeding bongos

Could be wrong, but my understanding of this is:Jacobus wrote: ..leak when hot leaks then seals when cool is not one ........
I think this happens mainly when silicon hoses and Jubilee clips (instead of the Mazda constant pressure clamps) are used - a double whamy.
Pipework on a Bongo does get quite hot and expands, taking the hose with it.
As it cools down and contracts, the rubber hose is kept in close contact with the steel pipe by the constant pressure clamps.
As the less flexible silicon hoses don't respond to constant pressure clamps so well, Jubilee clips are used instead.
When this combination expand and contract, the Jubilee clip doesn't quite go back to where it was. Repeat this process a few times and you finish up with a flexible that is not as tight as it should be - hence leak. What folk do is to tighten the Jubilee a bit to seal the gap, but this will eventualy work loose again.

Re: Weird coolant leak !!
Think you could be wrong there Steve.....the NORMA constant pressure clamps work very well with silicon hoses...thats why I started stocking them.....due to demand from the silicon hose boys.

Re: Weird coolant leak !!
Steve is right to some degree in relation to the silicon hoses (not sure if it's relevant to this instance?), hence the demand for the Norma constant pressure clips from some silicon hose users, others will stand by the jubilee clips. Personally I don't, not tried the Norma clips, but I got fed up with the silicon hose weeps with the jubilee clips & got them replaced with proper hoses & Mazda spec constant pressure clips when I had the head done. As a matter of interest (maybe to some
) the removed silicon hose that were left in a box in my garage are starting to go crumbly & splitting on some on the ends
In the case of the hose over the starter motor, this seems to be a common place for a leak/pinhole that may only show up once the engines warmed up & I suspect pressure is more of a component in making the leak visible than temperature, but I suspect the long term effect of higher temperature on the outlet side of the head may well have led to it being one of the hoses more likely to go (as well as the top hose).
