For what it's worth...
Took her to a different garage today who tested her. The prognosis is terminal, head gasket again

Thats bad news

don't scrap her tho if your not getting her fixed she's worth more in bits if you have the room to break her then thats the most cost effective option .

Perhaps the 1st garage should be made aware. I cannot understand why 'professional' garages feel no sense of obligation to find the root cuase of something like an overheating problem, in order to effect a lasting repair that justifies what they have charged for doing it. Or am I being dangerously old fashioned in my outlook, as usual.

No mike your bang on, any work carried out of that magnitude should come with warranty of 12 months, it seems that some garages just want your ££££££ and don't give a hoot about aftersales

The mechanics i use would view a job like this as a challenge, and want to get tho the root cause of the problem. I have put people on here onto them. Basically use mechanics, not fitters

I know it sounds a bit simple but, have you tried rad caps, both mine were shot and caused me no end of problems, overheating and spewing coolant out. Worth replacing for the cost.
