Glentress and Innerleithen are the two he has left, guess where our next vacant weekend will be
Leaving the best ones till the last as usual Muz. Now with winter on its way there will be plenty of brimming hot cups of tea and coffee available for you when you do this one with Dunslair at one end of the forest and me at the other. Just don't forget to drop in.

Remember guys, you only have untill the end of November to get a visit in to the legendary Hub Cafe at Glentress, before it closes for good to be replaced by bland overpriced Forestry Comission visitor centre, bike shop and cafe (9 million spend, which would go a long way to putting in new trails!!!) A souvenir hub mug is a must for any MTB tea drinker  :D Let me know when you are planning your trip.

Cheers

David.

The Hub has some great cakes and will be sorely missed.

They have some Orange Fives for hire which should suit Jr.

I see the shop closed last weekend, does that include the hire bikes too? :(

I think the Hub is going to run their hire fleet (or what they have not yet sold) from the cafe untill 27th Nov, but it may be worth giving them a call to check. If not you could also try Alpine Bikes in Innerleithen or at Glentress who also hire.

If there are going to be a few folk there then we may come down, depending on the day. That's why I got the bike rack!

It would be great to enjoy the van a bit more (and not have to sleep in it!)

It's not far for me but I have not been out on my bike for ages. My bike needs a good service and a new back wheel to replace the one that I buckled slightly when riding out to climb Carn An Fhidhleir and An Sgarsoch in the southern Cairgorm mountains on my round of the Munros. I am also prety useless at this down hill lark. I have enough on my plate trying to stay on the track never mind saying my prayers at the same time. :?

They have various grades of trail with some suitable for even beginners and almost normal bikes, forest road type trails - Muzette was ok at Newcastleton last week and she's pretty useless on a bike

They also have the 'skills area' where there are short sections of each grade so you can easily assess your ability without committing to something completely unsuitable and unable to retreat.

Yes I know Muz. June and I went for a walk in Glentress a few years back, they even have a leaflets showing the various walks and bike trails. Got to admit that I have never been on a prepared bike trail, all my mountain biking has been down some very rough landrover tracks out into the wilderness in my quest for another Munro. So in theory prepared tracks should be a piece ok cake, it is just that I have never got around to putting the theory to test.
