The above works by pulling hot air in and blowing it through ice blocks / chips...I think ice is often available in European supermarts these days...or you can get some in the camp shops

I reckon the best solution is to have a switch to swap the supply to the heating / aircon system over to the L/B as & when required. This would allow me to use the Bongo's own fans to create airflow as a 1st stage if it's a bit warm.

If I need more cooling, run the engine as suggested.

Trouble with running the engine is that it radiates a lot of heat into the cabin and continues to for several hours afterwards. Useful in the winter, problem if you want cool especially if you have dogs. I find the roof up with some vents open and the hatch open or bed stowed in the roof itself plus the side door or tailgate open gives some degree of natural cooling and help gets rid of the engine heat.

Dave, it might just be worth investigating how much effort is required to turn the compressor when the magnetic clutch is not operated. Looking at the diagram the 61-L11 would appear to rotate the compressor without the rest of the belts and engine when the clutch is not operated, that might give you a clue as to how much torque/power would be needed to turn just the compressor alone.

Just to give a fresh perspective on all this...

prob much easier and more effective to douse the bongo in water and let evaportion cool the whole thing, would prob cool the whole unit better than any hi-tek solution and cheaper. African fridges can cool to 8'c in 40'c heat with this method

don't do this in a hosepipe area tho!!!
