Have e-mailed Mazda UK but am not expecting anything helpful.
What to do next

White painted was the fixed sign for the second recall; 1st was yellow paint. ( That dogandlemon link shows the two recalls )

Is it worth the club sending something through to Mazda, may have a bit more clout? once the members have checked gearboxes?

If the white mark means it has been recalled and fixed, I wonder why my gearbox failed with the exact symptoms of the fault described in the recall. Also my gearbox is over sprayed with black Waxoil and the usual under body grime but the white paint looks bright and recently applied.

The recall notice was eleven years ago .. the newest Bongo on the road as got to be ten years old by now ..!!

The Waxoyl would most likely have been applied in the UK and the white paint was probably put on to help identify the correct orientation of the pan before removal and refitting for a filter service.

Good reply,thanks. The solenoid pack status remains a mystery however, I need it to be working again so I'm forking out for the gearbox to be replaced even though it seems to be a Mazda manufacturing error still unforgivable with the passage of time..!

It sounds to me like your geartrain has broken up withing the transmission & will need replacing. Not uncommon on Bongo's - especially with the increased load of towing a caravan. Transmission will need a complete rebuild or replacement, as others have suggested, with a used (but of course unknown) unit.

A major item often overlooked when transmissions fail is the need to carefully clean out the oil cooler as this will have dirty oil & possibly metal debris in it which will end up in the replacement/rebuilt transmission & can/does cause repeat failure.

Yes still got her. Not used a huge amount - & she is suffering as a result - but I am off to Cardiff (towing of course!) to spend 3 nights in her. Just doing some catch-up maintenance, new rear silencer box (AGAIN) that doesn't fit CV joint gaiter plus the usual.

All good here. Been repairing my n/s/r wheel arch today using my patent fibreglassing method, which I hope will give a durable and quality looking finish. Look forward to being retired when I don't have to squeeze Bongo maintenance around work, running a house and seeing kids and a new partner (who, happily, loves Bongo camping). Oh and trying to get back into gliding. Take care, and drop in here from time to time.
