there are plenty of official and unofficial meets throughout the year (unofficial ones allow non bongos) so as a starting point to build up some confidence look at coming to some of those. - They vary in size some some are quieter than others - but you have the security of other people from this site around - no pressure to join in if you dont want too but people to keep an eye out if you got for a walk or something. .- not sure where you are from but for example there are some lovely rural meets around yorks and cumbria.
I,m also a lone female traveller and have never felt insecure at any bongo meet.
There was a lady here who went all over on her own for several years including wild camping - she said with that she would try and be within screaming distance of a house - luckilly she never needed to scream.

thanks y'all for your helpful comments, and if i go ahead after my research over the autumn/winter, i will definitely look into bongo fury meetups.
