Bongo Fury

HI,

The roof light problem was as you advised, the near side switch in the roof. The tiniest black rubber grommet had dislodged and had to be replaced (with a piece of rubber from an old pencil) .

The front interior fan not so. The heater works fine but the fan ( when helped to start by a gentle spin ) is very weak. On the highest setting (no.4) there is hardly a breeze coming through.
I checked the thermal switch as you advised but the connections look ok.

I have a multi meter, if there is anything you think I should check. (Not really very conversant with its operation yet though).

The thermal fuses protect 5 resistors which control the speed of the fan in steps, if the above hasn't solved the problem, check the connectors for corrosion and that they are seated correctly on the back of the control unit in the cab, otherwise there isn't much else to go wrong. There was a report of a fan having been changed for the one the same size but it rotated in the wrong direction, the bladed fan cage itself it appeared cane from a different vehicle.

The removal of the fan looks a bit challenging at the moment and I need to use the van but I will try next week. Thanks for link.

Perhaps I could ask; the interior aft light( when the roof is up) doesn't seem to be getting any power to it. I have checked the fuse and that seems to be ok and the bulb seems ok. Any suggestions please.

If you mean the fluorescent light on the internal roof then check the cable down the roof and into the chassis, if its only failing when up then mostly likely a damaged cable at the hinges.

Its the little light in the aft sleeping compartment. The flourescent light works fine.

Ah right try cleaning the bulb contacts and the switch contacts, after that it is also controlled by one of the front microswitches that limit the roof travel when closing, it disconnects the lamp if its on to prevent battery drain. The light should go out at the same time as the beeping stops when the roof is lowered.

I haven't managed to remove fan from van yet but I wanted to ask, is there any way of testing the fan direct from 12v without removing it?
The fan seems to spin quite freely ( by hand) with no resistance.
Could you please tell me if the soldering looks ok on this image. I noticed that two of the solders seem to be touching. Not sure if it is meant to be like that;


I have a multi meter if you could sdvise where I would check to see if power is getting to the fan.

Yes the fan has a connector in its lead just a few inches from the housing, if you unplug this and then jumper the connections from the motor direct to the battery it should spin up.

Yes the soldering looks OK as much as I can see in the photo!

NO!!!
The connector comes out of the fan housing itself, that is NOT the fan housing!
The cable comes from the bottom of the housing see here
