Thanks for the tip starbangled..............Maplins had a pair in their bin end sale for £7.50  - just fitted them tonight and with the standard speakers and the Sony X-Plod head unit I'm pleased with the results - good enough for my deaf ol' ears

I acquired a pair of Sony XPLOD 6x9's last week - anyone fitted these to the front doors?
Judging by B&T's expoits (above) am I better off shoe-horning these into the rear of the Bongo and getting something smaller for the front?
ABSOLUTELY no clue about speakers (fitting or quality, impedance etc) so ANY advice would be welcome!!!!!!
Will I need an amp to get the best out of these or should they improve matters on their own?

You would not need a separate amplifier, your existing radio would drive them well enough.

I would say definitely a no go for the front as the speaker behind the grill is six inch or thereabouts jobby which sits in a plastic mount. The mount is a triangular circle like the speaker (i.e. not 4 hole mounted like every other speaker on the planet.
I ended up making a new mount for each door out of MDF by using the plasic mount as a template then mounting a circle of MDF for the speaker mount. Also worth noting is the depth of the speaker needs to be shallow. The speakers I got were a fraction over 2 inches deep and were exactly right.
I also repaced the speaker wires from the seperate amp that I have put behind the glove box as the originals are very thin. The seperate amp makes a big difference to the sound, apart from the volume I have serious bass (subwoofer helps there) and a very sweet treble now. Never before in a vehicle have I set all the tone controls to flat and been happy with the sounds produced.
