Update: Thursday.
Camshaft replaced & was being timed up & put back together as of close of play at 6.30 this evening.
IF (big If) no other damage has been done valve wise, I'm back on the road tomorrow afternoon. But we don't know 'till we get that far. Spannerman says it feels okay when pushing valves down & they seem to return with normal resistance, although if it works without having to take the head off he says I'll be
The luckiest man alive
I'd like to feel confident that all will be well. When it went it just cut out on tickover - like a fuel probem - with no dramatic knocks bangs or clanks.
Time will tell.

Fingers crossed - but have a really good look at the timing belt tensioner bearing Chris - there needs to be a reason for the cam snapping and a jump of the timing belt due to a dodgy tensioner wheel could be it!

Good call Alan
Tensioner being replaced but that could be a clue to the initial fault.
A week before I bought the Bongo, Oct 2007, the cambelt was (allegedly) replaced but no mention of tensioner being done too. (Previous owner had problems previously & bodged it on a budget to flog it on

)
There had been a very subtle click-click-clicking sound, increasing with RPM over the previous couple of weeks, almost inaudible but you notice these things on your own beast after a year or two.
That may well have been a sign.

Wow - the suspense - it's like a best selling novel, can't wait for the next chapter. Hope it's a happy ending.

Sorry to hear this chris... I'd get the bloke that made you rev the engine up at the blackpool meet to chip in with the repair cost, surely that wouldn't have helped matters much?
Best of luck mate, let's hope you are back on the road later!

I am indeed

Picked it up half an hour ago, drove three miles home & all seems well. Didn't need the head off, cost £120 to get sorted,
RESULT!!!!!
No time to post much right now as I'm packing up for a tiny test drive to Angelsey & late already.
