We (Charlie & Jennie) will be at the Tough Northerners in Vest meet and are new to this bongo bash stuff. Just wondering - what happens at these do's?

Normal rally stuff really, welly-wanging contests, greased-pig catching etc, with a bit of barbecuing and drooling over other Bongos

Oh, beer gets drunk too I hear :D

Maybe you blown the fuse if the wiring to the alternator earthed out to the bodywork/engine. Hope you get sorted, see you there.

Well that was a relaxing couple of days near York, pity the weather wasn’t as nice as it had been throughout the week but we managed to avoid rain so not too bad. Thanks to Ian & Marianne for organising, it was a well-equipped site with easy access to York city centre for those who wanted to go.

Image
We were later to the site than is ideal but once there, a few minutes and we’re ready to rumble :D

Image
Time for Muzette and I to disappear to the nearby Naburn locks

The weir on the Ouse

Now having read the blurb about the site I did fancy taking the river-bus from the locks into York centre but that service doesn’t start until April. That would have been ideal as a relaxing way to see the river and also pass Bishopthorpe Palace, residence of John Sentamu, Archbishop of York.

Image
So, not to worry, we just hired this for a cruise

Image
Are we pleased to be going on the river cruise after all?

The old swing railway bridge....

....with a rather odd sculpture – a fisherman catching a train :?

There was some very strange river craft along the bank

Oh no, Cap’n Hannah

Image
She soon got the hang of the compass and the GPS....

Image
....although there were no turnings she could go wrong at, only other boats to hit

How the other half live – indoor swimming pool with back garden onto a private mooring 8)

A common bee-fly....

....research for Muzette’s homework on insects

See, I can do this type of thing now I’ve washed the Bongo

Red sky at night, York Minster’s on fire again :D

Oddest roof award had to go to this

Back to the Palace – the main entrance this time.

Top tip of the weekend from Mike (DreamWarrior), the current fish & chip shop of the year on the A64 to the east of York....

Image
....aptly named too....

Oh yes!! – what a way to finish the weekend!!

did you enjoy the fish and chips is the ultimate question?
thanks for the party last night =D>

I see you managed to photograph our house while on the river. The swing bridge is now a cycle track that goes to selby and has a scale replica of the solar system within it. Worth a ride down to see how far the planets are apart, plus theres quite a few geocaches on the route.

thanks hannah for the grass last night, some good stuff was that.

Yes, well worth the detour, will note that place for whenever we're passing within a 50-mile radius :D
