The owners of vehicles that use WL-T engines in hotter climates suffer camshaft breakages....it's quite common in those parts and they tend to opt to use 10/40 oils which seems to prevent breakages.....according to those owners....
I guess it's the owners call and yer pays yer money and all that......
Old Skool thinking and experience suggests that in some OHC engine a "thicker" oil tends to cling when the engine is shut off so it is still lubricated from start up.... as for the WL-T engine.... your choice but I know mine.

On one, it was found that the previous garage had made a mistake when fitting the cambelt. Fortunately for the customer, his previous garage settled the bill.
Now this has made me wonder Doone. I had my cam belt replace about a month and half prior to this happening. What mistake was made by the garage and how would this cause the cam shaft to snap?

Now the garage did say that the bolts holding the cam shaft in place were overtightened by 10 n/m and thats what caused the breakage. Could it have been an error in the fitting of the cam belt?

Sorry, I don't know all the details as I'm just the wife, not the mechanic. :) The reason I mentioned the cams was that Steve was asking if anyone with a broken cam also had an overheating episode. I found out that neither of these had overheated, one had snapped due to old age, the other due to errors in fitting. I've also sent you a PM. :)
