The filter & spring aren't shown (a lot of the pump details such as seals aren't on this diagram).
The "brass ledges" are, I suspect the copper washers.

That was my assumption too..
Top marks to this forum for support..!
My next endeavour will be looking at the integrity of the rubber fuel hoses from the tank & that other fuel filter thing under the drivers seat.. (The one the size of an oil filter.)
It's been a fun day!!

It shouldn't cost you more than a tenner to change the fuel hoses - you know they're right then (as they're supposed to be changed every 4 years according to the handbook)

Funny enough, i had that thread in mind..! Sandy got me a handbook for my birthday last month....

There are some funny pearls of wisdom in there, like if the vehicle stalls on a train track or do not modify this vehicle!!!
Is the diesel filter just a straight swap over, or do i have to smear some grease on a seal or something...?

Think there's a factsheet for the fuel filter, but basically unplug the sensor on the bottom, drain the fuel from the white drain plug into a container, then take the filter off, may need to unbolt & lift up the housing to do it if it's tight.
Then with the new one, make sure you use the new o-ring on the bottom for the sensor plug you've taken off the old one (a smear of clean diesel on any new seals so they don't ruck up) fill the filter with diesel or injector cleaner or a mix of both, ensure the top seal is in situ on the filter, smear of diesel, make sure the housing face is clean, another smear of diesel won't hurt, screw in hand tight, then crank it up, should self bleed & start, check for leaks - job done

Do the top seal & sensor plug seal come with the filter..?

Yes

top seal should be in situ, one or two peeps in the past have got a bit confused & put the bottom o-ring on the top when the seal is already there

You can just see the top seal in situ on the filter on there, the black ring.
