Doing a bit more reading and there are quite a few MS309's on eBay but strangely none listed on Autels website: http://auteltech.com/autelcms/Code%20Re ... /363.jhtml

Makes me wonder whether they are just a Chinese copy, but if it works, then it sounds like a bargain. The seller you used includes a 3 year warranty which is worth the extra few pounds.

This is the first time anyone has found a suitable device to my knowledge! Good on you for having a hunt!
I've ordered a set from Amazon and Ebay.

Well just been checking the unit and adaptor cable out, it powers up and works, but not having any faults it appears to be unable to report anything ...
I might have to find a way of generating a fault to check, it does run thru the protocols and reports KWP2000 as the protocol, but then reports Linking Error when you ask it to report on the codes or do any other function, so hopefully this is merely down to the fact that there are no error codes!

Have you got the ElmScan? if so have you tried the Forscan software? KWP2000 is a big specification and OBD2 only uses a small part of it, it is often used for manufacturer specfic protocols as well.

I have doubts that KWP2000 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyword_Protocol_2000 is the relevant one for the older Bongos to be honest !
I suspect it may only apply to the most recent Bongo versions that have the Engine Check symbol.

The tool is connecting so that implies that it is KWP2000, the lack of data implies that its not OBD2, this is quite common. If you have the ELM tool then you can manually interrogate the ECU to check the responses. KWP2000 is a fairly old specification, dating back to around 1995/6 and was quite common from around 1998 onwards.

As far as I can ascertain the reader only works on vehicles with the check engine warning light.
