Right, back on track
Rear heater & AC is finally out

Hoses blanked at the points I thought they could be by using the short length of hose under the passenger seat at the rear going towards the rear heater, cut in half, two 18mm bolts with unthreaded sections at the top, modified to make 2 plugs held in place with the existing clips from the hoses removed.
Disappointingly, bleeding didn't seem to be much different ( I suppose this was where this thread started

) about 30-40 minutes to make sure everything was doing what it should, everything controlled as it did before removal. I'll stick some piccies up later, need a nice warm bath asap, it was orrible & wet out there, but I'd started so I had to finish

AC blanking & recharge is a work in progress, hopefully get that sorted tomorrow
Measured the capacity of the two hoses, one metal pipe & matrix, quite surprised by the result, any guesses of the total capacity of the bits removed? does anybody care?

Plucked from the guess box? including pipes 3 liters (gotta start somewhere)
You're cheating Dave. Betcha just been outside, drained that bit off, measured it, put it back, bled, checked etc.

Since you're all clamouring to find out

just under 6ooml

Not a lot is it? the matrix on its own is only about 160ml, so those that have bypassed theirs will have made virtually no difference to the amount of coolant in the system or flow. Mine is a bit different as I've removed a bit more & blanked it, but I don't think it'll really make any difference, didn't think it'd be that little though.

Twice, just to make sure.
Or it was another random guess.

Few pics of the gubbins being removed
Fan already out, cover unclipped, revealing ac evaporator & heater matrix
Point under the passenger seat where the 2 AC lines & the heater return are to be blanked
Heater matrix out
Empty well
Aluminium AC pipes out
AC connections to be made into blanks
AC blanks made up, filled with cold weld/chemical metal & crimped over
Making coolant blanking ends from 18mm bolts cut down & filed off to round edges
Heater supply coolant blank in situ just infront of rear heater under drivers side

Didn't realise you'd a LHD Bongo Mizzy

You've been busy with the sound deadening - looks good!

So I was MILES out (or kilometers if you prefer

) Gotta say I was expecting more than that, but hey, ya can't beat facts.
Incidentally, just for the sake of interest, when you started this post, you talked about the 18mm bolts. Are you sure? Reason for asking is that M18 is a non-standard thread. You can get M18 but have to order them special (in the UK-not sure about Japan.)
The nearest standard is M16.

I'm sure about the M18

had a choice of about 8 lengths, from Eurofasteners, proper industrial type supplier around the corner from me

Not quite sure what you're trying to say Dandy, but it's definitely under the passy seat

Bit late in replying perhaps but I had my rear matrix disconnected by something on the autobahn near Cologne last September. Hit something on the road while passing a lorry which snapped both inlet and outlet pipes. Recovery service took me to a garage who bypassed the matrix, connected the pipes, refilled and bled the system. Carried on through Czech Republic to Italy and back to Scotland without any problem with overheating and have covered around 4500 miles since the incident. German recovery company picked me up within 20/25 minutes of reporting the problem and I was back on the road in just over 2 hours.
