You've all been very kind.

Thank you one & all. =D> =D>

Its a problem that will be resolved,

After a bit of covert invesigation I believe I've had a dubious head from the offset.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, just hope it can be sorted while we still have some summer left.

On the plus side - that new motorbike of mine is getting one hell of a spanking in the meantime!!!

my radiator went, and the garage that retrieved the van fitted the new radiator and told me that the head was blown as they could'nt get it to stop overheating. drove it with the expansion cap off to the usual garage who found out that the radiator had been fitted incorrectly and a breather hose had been blocked. Makes you think how many heads have been skimmed unneccessarily.
If you mean the vent pipe at the expansion cap, then that should be blocked as a standard bongo rad doesn't have one, any venting is taken care of at the header/expansion tank (1.1bar cap), hence it's irrelevant what rating cap is fitted to the rad as long as the top seal is effective. See the diagram - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html - no vent pipe at the rad expansion cap, they may have meant the hose that goes to the expansion tank I guess?
Either way I'd have a quick check just in case.

Chris, I just picked up this thread for the first time. Like Mike I'm online less nowadays, so I'm missing a lot of topics altogether.

Gutted for you, and hope resolution comes quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Hope the head was not from our friend in Cleckie.

Chin up, and keep on enjoying the bike - wish my dodgy knees would let me get back on one.

Decided to just go ahead & get it done. A fair bit of cash would've had to be forked out for diagnostic time anyway plus the hassle & expense of getting it moved & finding somewhere to keep it then getting it back at some point etc . . . . .

As I speak - well - tap away on a keyboard, new piston rings are in. Shiney new head & ancillaries arrived courtesy of Bongobits yesterday, another exhaust manifold, cambelt kit, stat, waterpump & other assorted bits are all ready to be chucked together & the EGRs being blanked off.

Can't believe its been 6 weeks but should be back on the road for the Anglesey Mystery Meet this coming weekend. \:D/

Don't suppose anyone has tomorrow lottery numbers yet?

I'm gonna have to pay for this somehow.

If it's not sorted there's room in our bongo for the tour and you and Ron could go off on a bike spin ;)
It's promising a sunny weekend :)
