simon jones has one spare(that he wouldnt give me) if its a diesel engine.
i dont see how it can leak as its tight, maybe its split/cracked, if it is you could remove and weld it up, or remove and refit with exhaust assembly paste.
if your going to remove it for inspection/repair its best to give it some wd40 the night before, and undo it while its cold, i used a 2 foot set of stillies with steady pressure.

just a thought, are you sure its not a broken manifold stud nearby, these are known to snap off and make the manifold leak.

rob, did you check out the post kirsty put out earlier. contaminated fuel. try running it from a can of fresh fuel piped into the filter or after the filter.

I have a problem with the EGR pipe that is leaking from the screwed join in the back of the exhaust manifold. It is blowing between the pipe and the large screwed threaded union. This is quite noisy and may be reducing power. I have tried tightening this but there is now way that it will move. This may require a new pipe, I have looked for this pipe on Lush Projects but cannot find it.

Have any of you guys any thoughts on this problem of replacement repair renewal etc.

All the best.

This should help - http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html any breaker should be able to supply, or if your egr is blanked, you could take off the pipe & either weld up/repair as NB said, or get a local fitter/machine shop to turn you up a threaded plug . There was a guy on here - Nick Skidmore - that used to sell a stainless plug & blanking plate for @£20 so you could remove the whole thing. Not heard anything from him in a couple of years though.
Probably woulda been better to start another thread rather than hijack  Was wondering if you were still bongoing though.

Hi Ady i got manifold stud broke would that be enough to cause lack off power. It seems to have improved since i put the new exhaust on.

Hi all just come back from couple of days away but this peski bongo drove like a pig. There is no guts in it on hill foot right to the floor and just gets slower and slower on the hill. Dont no what to do with it now., was gona try fuel dircet fom can then blank off the egr valve, but as mentioned in my previous threads the last keeper must have had something done with the turbo i was wondering if they have put the wrong turbo back on, could this happen or is it pump timing related or could there be a fault with the automatic box, Open to sugguestions please.

Until you've tried what's been suggested to eliminate the possibilities already suggested there ain't much point suggesting anything else other than get it to a bongo specialist.
For what it's worth I doubt it's the auto box unless it's revving the t*ts off it & going nowhere it could be the TPS, but even then it's probably a fuel delivery issue, be it a tank pick up/blocked fuel line/sucking in air/ fuel pump timing/leaking fuel seals.
Is the turbo spooling up at all? you should be able to hear it & check the output by removing the air outlet. Did you remove & clean out the intercooler?

Just a daft thought, pop the small hose off from the air inlet to the fuel pump & check that it's not blocked with crap from the egr within the hose or from the connection on the air inlet elbow - when I removed my egr & with others I've seen, there's been a load of thick black gunge in that area, not sure if this may block that signal to the fuel pump?

the air pipe that kirsty mentions above acts on a rubber diaphram in the pump top (i think  ) this may have perrished or split, you may get a similar effect to when the old carb diaphrams split, and loose lift.
take the pump end off and see if there is any drag /suck towards the inlet manifold when the engine is running/revving.

Hi all just blanked off the egr valve at one end and feed the fuel dirct but still on difference. No power on hill any more suggusestions.

Did you try running it from a known clean fuel supply & all the other suggestions? Try disconnecting &blowing through all the fuel lines.

Yes we run it from clean fuel just straight to the pump. Would we need to bow fuel lines if it was straight to the pump. Not done anything with the pump i am going to leave that to a diesel specialist.

If you've checked everything suggested, ie turbo spooling up ok, intercooler etc clear so it's getting it's air supply. If the hose from air intake to fuel pump is clear & operating, fuel supply is clear, then it looks like it's maybe time to get it to a specialist & get the pump looked at?
