That's all very well of you to say Dabs and DBO, But I personally would have a long way to go with the Harry look!

I suppose I could do cryptic though.

keith could be harry though.
The airshow sounds good -but I,ve spent the weekend having the workings of various steam engines described to me -so I,m guessing thats where we will end up -Does anyone know if its in walking distance -(old person/gammy leg /possibly with hang over walking - not the treking/disapearing for hours thing.
Jo you could go as chip :-"

Not a bad walk to the steam gathering 'bout a mile all down hill !! now... the return journey, as you might guess all up hill, the only plus is you pass, ( or don't pass ) the Pheasant Inn 'bout half way back.

This in an aerial shot of part of last years steam gathering. It was my first time in my life I have ever been airborne. My youngest daugher took some very unflattering pics of my facial expressions (as in sheer shock and horror) I won't be publishing them.

It's nice for us we see everything coming and going during the week. Things are beginning to arrive today.

Chris and I will go on the Sunday as he has to work on Saturday, my Daughter and Son in Law who are coming up for the weekend will go on the Saturday as they have to leave Sunday for work on Monday.

Sorry Mike -Dont own any -I do know a good kite beach - on the barrow side of humphrey head -when the tides out (and if memory serves it usually is,) theres acres of space. Humphrey head isnt a bad place for a walk either - lots of wild flowers - Unfortunately for me also a cliff.

I was fine looking at that picture until i looked down at the vehicle in the road -now i feel sick and I,ve got my feet on the ground.
I,m torn cos I fancy the airshow too It would be great to be able to get up onto the fells above windermere and see those planes from a different angle.
-I can see how this will happen we,ll spend all morning discussing it and end up going to neither - not to worry I,m really looking forward too it either way.
I was wondering last night (nothing on tv) how do they transport those steam engines down there - surely not through cartmel ?
Does Allithwaite have a village shop by the way (papers, fags, milk ) or do i need to get all organised and stocked up.

The steam engines are brought here on low-loaders, not through Cartmel though, they come through Grange over Sands, mainly over night to avoid causing jams. There is a post office/shop in Allithwaite, sells milk, papers etc. but they aren't open late, and the weekend of the steam gathering lots of the shops sell out of bread so might be an idea to bring some with you.

I think we are planning on going to the Steam Gathering on saturday. Despite living so close we've never actually been before. I always hear excellent reports about it and theres plenty to see. Not sure how long I can look at steam engines for though  I reckon its a bit far to walk to it and trail around all day though. We did a 7-8 mile walk across Morecambe Bay last week so I need a rest this weekend
The airshow is a good day out too. The red arrows are there on sunday afternoon so you could always go to Windermere on the way home (not that its on many peoples way home  )
You dont have to pay at the airshow unless you want to see a couple of helicopters n stuff going on in the 'entertainment area'. Otherwise there is a small fun fair on the glebe and RAF goodies for the kids if you get there in good time. The last time we went was 2 years ago and it was a scorching day so we finished the afternoon off with a nice chilled glass of wine in the gardens of the Belsfield Hotel and sat on the steep lawn and watched the red arrows. Nice. Not that I'll be going this year. The place is heaving and parking is horrendous

Well you guys seem all sorted for this weekend....air show/tennis/shopping.......?? I've been sweating re who to come as, for the party???? NOW I know..........and its taken me all day to sort the little b-gg-rs out !!!! As for the steam rally, they are super machines; especially when they do their collective 'tooting ' It clearly takes less and less to give me a thrill in my old age
Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday; fingers crossed for some respite from all this rain [-o<
