Waxoyling

Post by Faff » Thu Mar 15, 2007 11:51 am

Hi, Picking up my Bongo on Saturday and plan to get it Waxoyled. I live in Bedfordshire but can travel. Nearest place that I can find that does it is in Hatfield and they want almost £500. Does this sound reasonable and can anyone recommend somewhere they've been that's done a good job?
Cheers, Chris.

Thanks for that. How much did it cost you?

Patchy

Mine is supposed to have been done but it looks fairly patchy. Do they only spray the joins and vital bits or should the whole lot be completely covered?

Thanks

If you can get youself up to Cheshire, I cannot recommend Chassis Clean highly enough. I discovered them from other satisfied BF members. Bongos cost £380 and they pressure jet it down, put it in a hot room for a day to dry off, remove rear light clusters, door trim, bungs etc. etc. and inject waxoyl to approx mid line of the car. They waxoyl carefull and skillfully underneat and they spray Dinitrol over that as waxoyl tends to come off over time with grit and spray from the road, so needs a check every year. With Dinitrol (which provides a harder cover to the waxoyl they say) you need never have it done again, although they recommend an inspection every 3 years just in case. If you put Chassis Clean into search, you should find some discussion threads, with pics I have posted.

Chassis Clean are at: http://www.chassisclean.co.uk/

Pics of job done on my Bongo can be seen at:

I belive they have a courtesy car too that you can use while the Bongo is in being done.

Hope this helps.

I'm with Mike - they did a great job on mine the same week that they did his - STILL smells of boot polish several months later though...

Hiya Faff

I'm in Cranfield.....good to see another Beds Bongowner! You don't have to go so far for waxoyling.....another owner recommended Phoenix Car Restorations, they are in Flitwick just up the road. Tel 01525 713944.
I haven't used them myself yet, though I should have done, but the person who recommended them was very please with price/service.

Enjoy the Bongo.................Rob

Thanks Rob,

Just spoke to the guy in Flitwick and he was rally helpful. However he did say it smells a lot once done (for weeks) and he wouldn't advise more than short runs until the smell disappears which takes 2-3 weeks.

Anyone any idea whether the smell is as bad as indicated? Think I'll leave having it done until we're back from our Easter trip as don't want to be stuck in a stinky Bongo for hours whilst in Wales (where it will probably be raining).

Cheers, Chris.

He's right. Ours was very smelly for about 2 weeks. But I wouldn't call it an unpleasant small. A bit like floor polish really.
