!!Rusty Front End!!

Post by Glynanderson » Sat Mar 24, 2007 6:26 pm

As part of the Bongo buying process, I looked at an awful lot of Bongos and realised that a lot of them seem to have light rusting behind the front bumoer.
When I imported mine last August I was relieved to see that mine didn't suffer from this.
However, after an English (North East) winter I was shocked to see that my Bongo had also caught this disease.
Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
So, Istripped the front bumper etc. off and gave it a good coat of Hammerit (Idon't care about the finish, as long as it stops any more rust)
While I was sanding off the rust I notticed that the paint on the front cross members was very thin.
I took some pics of before and after on my mobile phone so the quality isn't that good.
I'd like to post them on this thread but don't know how.
Looking forward to your thoughts etc,
Glyn

Neat job Glyn, Mine was starting to do the same so I soaked it in Jenolite and waxoil. Maybe I'll get round to the Hammerite soon

Strange damage to the bottom of the aircon exchanger.......... :?

Thanks Dandywarhol, I noticed that damage too, it seems to be about where the bonnet catch was lying when I took it off, so I wondered if someone had had the catch off before and dropped it against the exchanger.

Replaced my rear bumper today and also noticed this rusting on rear end also, so i think hammeriting front to back could be well worth thinking about.

Had same problem on front. Got Chassis Clean to Dinitrol it whilst doing the rest of the vehicle. Dont know how life threatening it is but it lets the vehicle down if not done. Nice job you've done there - should put an end to it 8)

Nice job I take it you used smooth hammerit?
You could make a grill to go behind the bumper I got this one a Lidl and just cut it to shape.

Hiya,

We've developed a couple of small rusty patches on the outside of the wheel arches, ours is Burgundy over silver, its on the silver part where the silver meets the burgundy.

Whats the best way to rub it down and paint it? Will it mean a whole spray paint job around the bottom?

Thanks

Looks a top job Glyn, spray on hammerite you say? Did you spray the front member too? ( between the lights and bumper)

Looks a really good match... I bet hammerite dont make a shade of green that close to my neat green :( Nice attention to detail that glyn, a lot of people would have ignored it. A man after my own heart
