				Hammerite windscreen wiper arms?

The paint on my windscreen wiper arms has chipped causing them to look untidy and patches of rust to appear. Do you think it would be OK to repaint them with Hammerite?
Any idea how to detach the arms? I had a look this morning and I couldn't see any way at all to get them off.

Yes I've done that with wiper arms in the past. Looks ok if you use the smooth black variety. Not looked at how they come off yet but it's usually a case of levering the bottom end up with a heavy srewdriver and there should be a nut under there. I would be inclined to paint it in situ, they are usually a pig to get off, then you have to be careful about replacing in the correct position. Just rub any rust and flakey paint off with emery paper then wack some hammerite on it.

It's dead easy to take the wiper arms off.
I had to replace one recently. Pop the little plastic cap off that covers the mounting point. Undo the nut and pull it off the spline. Could be useful to make a note of the poition on the spline so you can put it back in the same place. I didn't but it wasn't a problem when I replaced it.
As far as I know you can't seperate the two parts of the arm.

use a dab of tipex to mark the position before you take it of the spline

Whats wrong with a quick rub down followed by primer and a quick spray with 'satin black'. This will give you a finish and look similar to the original.

Mike, I'm a bit concerned you're on the wrong forum. Your Bongo doesn't look quite like mine.

Corblimey - you have got to be kidding. I thought all Bongos were welcome. Cant believe I've been in the club since October 06 and no-one has picked me up on this, as I thought I had made it clear.
The car in the picture is the Austin 1100 'Bongo'. Not many were made with that badge, as sales were disappointing. They then added some fake wood trim and changed the name to 'Countryman' and sales took off. But an 1100 Bongo is highly collectible. I sold my last one for £7k (I kid you not).
Maybe now members understand why I have been so busy building and buying awnings. As you can see from the photo, there is no way a family of 5 would be able to sleep in my 1100 Bongo.
One last question. If this is not the right club for me, can anyone point me to a suitable club for cars like mine. I had a look for clubs based around the 110/1300 but wasnt impressed. I shall be sorry to leave BF - you've been a great crowd to know - but clearly, I am in the wrong place

Take care, and enjoy your (Mazda) Bongos. Maybe see you around sometime
Mike
