As my hold light is permanently flashing even without engine running but key in 'On' position. Just wonder if there is anything that I can do to reset the CPU? I had tried to play with the Hold switch and remove the battery connection but without succcess.

if i remember. you have to disconnect the battery/s to reset the cpu.
if you have done this then the flashing hold light means you have a problem.

Had the same problem just recently
If you leave the bongo switched off for about 30 min it should reset itself even if only temporary.
If it comes back on after about 30 min driving further inspection is needed

In fact, this hold light flashing problem was inherited from the previous gear box fault. Previous gear box was not shifting for the 2nd to 3rd gear shift and often hold till 4000rpm and not shifting, then when the hold light came on and flashing at the rate of 1:1, the gear shift become normal, may be a bit at the lower rpm than normal.
After some time, the hold light come on flashing immediately even when the key is in on position without engine running and it stay that way when the engine turned on permanently and the gear shift was quite normal except when going from stop, the first gear shift come with a jerk then other gear shift come at lower rpm than normal.
As my friend had the present gear box in hand (without the transfer case) so I decided to replace mine box and using back my transfercase. After the replacement, the hold light still flashing, seems that it had registered in the cpu, thus I need to rest the cpu in order to check if the 'new' gear box do any good.

New gear box and still happening?
Next guess electrical behind the glove compartment is the cpu and by that is a blue connector I took that apart and sprayed with contact cleaner and mine now drives like a diferent car.
I did get lucky doing that as they said start at gearbox but it was multi fauts so I went straight to the cpu
I did this after taking my car to an auto gearbox specialist and he plugged in a diagnostic machine which told him it was electrical. cost me £47 but saved me buying solonoids etc and finding it still didnt work
My understanding from them is the cpu runs a check when the key is turned and if it finds a fault is shows as the hold light and safty mode
so after being swiched off for 30 min if it stats again the fault is still there.
Flashing 1 to 1 is normal the only time it will flash diferently is if you do the diagnostic check on the fact sheet.

.....after you have pressed the HOLD button to activate HOLD.
Totally silly question I know Chin but, out of interest, does pressing the HOLD button make any difference to the HOLD light blinking pattern?
I'll shut up now (rotten tomatoes etc.)

sorry i was unclear
If you press the hold button the hold light should stay on or off if pressed a second time
bongos also use it as a warning light if it flashes it is sensing a fault but will flash at 1 sec on 1 sec off

When the hold light start flashing, pressing the hold button doesn't make any difference or no effect at all.

I'd take westernwarriors advice and get an autogearbox specialist to look at it. Depending on where you are, there are some on the Members recommended garages list who have Bongo experience. Hope you get it sorted without too much expense. Let us know how you get on as it may help others.
Best
Mike
