Looking under the drivers seat at the big pipe that comes from the air filter and goes round the back of the engine there is a smaller pipe (approx 1/4") going up vertically to a green part with an arrow pointing up. There should then be a pipe with silver insulation going from this green part arcing round to a device that sites above the injector pipes. I say should because on mine the silver pipe is detached with a brocken spigot from the green thing still inserted.
What is the green thing and what does it do?

Sounds like one of the vacuum connections to the valves that increases the revs when the aircon is on etc. Try a search in here as I'm sure other folks have had the same problem & managed to glue it back together.

From reading various posts the green valve goes to the EGR soleniod.
I have since fitted blanking plates to disable the EGR so I am wondering whether I need to fix the valve. The stem is broken off of the top part of the valve so in theory air can still come out of the valve but is no longer connected to the soleniod.
Any suggestions on what to do?
