Sounds like the starter motor contacts. Provided yours isn't the twin starter battery version with the more powerful starter motor, it is possible to fit replacement contacts and save a lot of dosh. Have a search on here for advice (BF member Moonshine / Colin discovered this neat fix).

Good luck 8)

This what ours sounded like with a starter contact fault...

(might need to turn volume up)

It is not a differcult job, if you can use a spanner. There is a good youtube vid, link in this thread....

Easy job - under an hour, make sure you get the plunger as well as the contacts, this is what mine looked like.

I had the same symptoms until it just wouldn't go :( , luckily the new bits had arrived by then, was surprised how quick & easy it was to do, thanks to the video =D>

As a temp repair you can stip down the contacts and clean them.
this can buy you a few weeks but replacements will be needed

Thanks Guys/Gals.
Got the AA out this morning,(very liquid night last night couldnt face the spanners  )He thinks a combination of the starter and a tired batt.
Where can I get the contact kit from and what batt do I need
Thanks

I think ther may be a factsheet in the members area Neil but if not have a search on here (or PM Moonshine / Colin if need be). Regarding the battery, fit a nice powerful one - its well worth it I think. I have 95AmpHr (delivered quickly and at a good price from http://www.batmanuk.com) but you can get 105AmpHr (Ian de Bongomeister used to stock and sell them, no idea if his price is the best). Obviously check dimensions but I suspect most car batteries wil plonk in there with nae bother.

Good luck 8)
