Bongo Fury

I have replaced the thermostat in my bongo, due to overheating, but it now appears that the housing is leaking. I think this is from the joint.
I would have thought that there was a gasket for a diesel, but cannot seem to find one, and one was not fitted when I opened the housing.
Any advice?

There should be a rubber seal around the outside of the stat.

Yes, I fitted the thermostat with the rubber seal.
MaybeI have to tighten it up a bit more.

Yes, I am fine with the cooling system bleeding.
I will have to check that the seal is seated properly - hmm another session with the cooling system, at least its a nice day for it.

The problem is sorted now thanks guys. I used a touch of Hylomar Universal Blue Gasket Sealant and checked the seating of the stat. the leak has gone. Spent 2 hours bleeding the system. I am hoping my heating issue has been resolved. I have replaced the radiator and the stat now.
One thing i noticed was that the scavenge fan just in front of the engine did not start, despite hearing the radiator fans starting during the bleeding session. I wonder if this is contributing to my overheating problem.

I don't think so, esp. since the weather isn't even hot. Its really for cooling the engine bay and not as a critical element in preventing overheating I suspect. For me, suspicion would fall next on the radiator as being clogged.

Ok, thanks Mike, I changed the rad about 2 weeks ago for a new one. I have bled the system and sorted the stat, but I haven’t had a chance to take it for a test drive to check the overheating probs yet. I will do that tomorrow and post the results. I have a good hill about 5 miles from me on a dual carriage way that really tests the engine at speed. It is so annoying seeing the needle go past the 12 O' clock position, but fingers crossed

Well lets hope that new rad. and new thermostat plus correct bleeding will get it settled

Yes, thanks it did sort it.
It took more than one session of bleeding though. Cant really emphasise enough how important it is and how important it is to do it correctly.
