Saw a small chineese party on the park last night and they let go about 50 sky lanterns
the sky was lit with these beautiful lights
I think it would be a good idea if we could do this on the bash.
not just for adults but good fun for the kids.
heres a link to what they look like

Saw one of these for the first time a couple of years ago while we were camping on some cliffs in Dorset. Somebody let off a couple from the beach below. It was a beautiful clear night, and these things looked fantastic as they went off into the distance. Apparently the coastguards aren't too keen on them - there have been a few cases where they have been called out by someone thinking they were distress signals etc

If you're letting them off from a beach the coast guard like to be informed first. Not many beaches in Stourport though

Ho ho! Back in the 1970s me and my mates used to holidya on the Isle of Purbeck and fly our model gliders on the coastal cliffs. We hatched a plan to make a hot air balloon using a bin line and zip firelighter and let it fly from the cliffs in a light offshore breeze . We tested one (not there) and it worked beaut. We never did have the nerve to let one off on the coast for exactly that reason - might alarm the coastguards. Also, if it drifted inland, a risk that if it came to earth prematurely it might set dry grass and/or crops alight.
Be careful out there guys and gals!

Away from our Health & Safety, Politicaly Correct bubble, there is the rest of the world.
This stuff goes on all over the place Mike. I've played with these from New Zealand to Canada & most points in between.
No damage has been caused to humanity - So far, at least, we're still spinning round the Sun at a thousand miles an hour.
Worry not, all will be well.
