Rev counter needle points wrong way.

Somehow rev counter needle has gone completely round dial so that is pointing straight down, in between the zero and the six on dial face. It is still trying to work as when engine is running the needle moves clockwise but is prevented by the stop pin on the zero. Thing is, how can this happen, can over-revving cause needle to go so far round it can't return and so drops down past the six, or is it possible for needle to jump over stop pin when returning correct way. Van has been in for sorting paintwork out, rev counter was fine when it went in but like this when I collected today. Am going to open dash to get at dials to see if it will push back round to zero now, but still can't understand how this could happen.

I suspect it has been removed and the needle pushed round
I have an origonal speedo in front of me now and I can push the needle all the way round so its on the wrong side of the botom stop pin so I presume the rev counter is the same
4 screws gets the facia out and another 4 removes the front screen assembly Im sure its an easy fix.

Sounds like the needle just needs lifting back over the stop pin again - should then work OK.

Thanks for replys, rev counter back to normal now, removed fascia to get at needle and gently turned it back anti clockwise. Seems to be working ok but still can't understand how it got round there in first place.
