Removal of stubborn starter motor bolts... Any tips?

After looking at the fact sheet and video of how to change the starter motor contacts,i became stymied at the beginning.
The three starter bolts just won't budge. And with the limited amount of room, smacking the spanner with a hammer isn't an option.
Whats the best plan or tips of the trade,or perhaps special tools to use in this situation.
I can almost remove the solenoid without removing the starter (save about 10mm) but the hydraulic pipes behind it prevent me from sliding it off. Hence having to remove the whole starter unit i guess.

Thanks for the reply... good call.
I did something similar when i sourced a rear exhaust pipe. I think i paid £30.00 cash in hand to an exhaust centre which i had forgotten about.
Thanks again. :D
