Automatic folding mirror failure
Athough its not the end of the world - if it had been the passenger side it might, the drivers mirror has decided to go on strike leaving the passenger one working - has the motor packed up and if so is it possible to persuade it to come out of retirement? Many thanks in advance.

Re: Automatic folding mirror failure
sounds as if you have the same old problem, that being the wiring loom between door and body needs a look see. More than likley the door mirror wire has broken, fiddley job, but can be done

brian willoughby recently had the same problem and this worked for him.Marcus Beechcroft wrote:Athough its not the end of the world - if it had been the passenger side it might, the drivers mirror has decided to go on strike leaving the passenger one working - has the motor packed up and if so is it possible to persuade it to come out of retirement? Takes seconds to try and avoids removing bits.
'I seem to remember my offside mirror suffered something similar when it got thumped.
The way I got mine back to behaving itself was by operating the mirror fold button (at the side of the mirror adjustment gismo) in and then out again and it reset back to normal.'

Re: Automatic folding mirror failure
has the mirror been pushed towards the front of the vehicle if so a push back into place and then opperate the switch a couple of times might fix it - before you take anything apart!!!
Be nice to everyone they might be nice back.

Re: Automatic folding mirror failure
Probably the door loom again, mine went again a couple of days ago, so fiddly and the damn wires are so thin, I had to grab the end with a pliers and pull hard to get some slack..albeit a little from the door pillar to work on,stuck a junction on there for now, my local mechanic chap is gonna make me a full loom and replace the pathetic one that is there now. I definitely think they have economised on these wires they are like blooming hairs.

Re: Automatic folding mirror failure
My passenger side gives up occasionally, this sounds brutal, but push the mirror towards the front of the bongo so it folds the wrong way (ie mirror pointing away from the bongo), hopefully as happens with mine, the motor will catch & take over, folding one way or t'other, try it on the switch then. Usual disclaimers apply, but it works for me

not unless the little scalextrix motors packed up like in ours again.

Re: Automatic folding mirror failure
Many thanks for the suggestions. Pushing the mirror flat the wrong way against the door did'nt do anything but fiddling with the wiring going from the body to the door did. I guess it's not surprising its the drivers side as it gets the most wear from the wires being flexed over and over again. Does anyone know the colour of the wire that carries the juice to the "scalextric" motor in the door? Thanks
