Had a flat and had to use the worrying spacesaver, where can I get a full size spare from, at what approx price and how much ground clearance will I lose fitting one?

Loads of converters have them, because they fit alloy wheels. Don't understand the ground clearance part - the normal wheels are the same diameter as the skinny spare - different tyre sizes though.

It's really a mater of asking around i.e. as you have done on here, somebody is sure to know where one is available.

You don't lose any ground clearance whatsoever as a standard wheel lifts well up between the chassis rails, it doesn't hang down at all.

If you're worried about it protruding below the bongo when carrying it, because a space saver was fitted, stop worrying, loadsa room under there, no need to fit a space saver in the first place, it's not like weight is a huge issue. Someone may even be local to you with a spare sitting around.

Just while we're on the subject which of the two sizes is best to have as a spare - a front or a rear?

front IMO, it'll steer ok then, the rears are fixed so it's not so important.

It could be possible that a skinny was used as a spare because of the question of which size to use when the recommendation is that front and rear are of different sizes. If the skinny is used it would probably be replaced as soon as possible, whereas a normal wheel might stay on longer and be of the wrong size. Having said that I have not kept the skinny but have a rear for spare because of the load rating. Probably having the wrong load rating in an emergency is acceptable if not fully loaded and speed kept sensible.

Got mine from Wheelquick in Wigan, was only a few quid at the time. Worth ringing them if you're heading down the M6
