It goes to the rear heater and has a sleeve on it to protect it from chaffing on the starter motor !!
Had a lucky escape with mine!
Got my replacement from Bongobits

so, my earlier post about having a dickie thermostat might have been wrong....or should i change the thermostat too?

how much hassle is it to change both the hose and the thermostat (cant find a fact sheet for the stat changing)

It is possible to change that hose with minimal coolant loss using hose clamps, but it has to be done quick. It also may need a bleed afterwards just to make sure no air has got in.Mine was done that way 18mths ago with no problems at all!!

For how much a stat costs, I'd do it anyway & give it a proper flush out with the stat out, just put the rubber gasket ring back in from the old stat. it's not a difficult job, undo the bolt that holds the dipstick tube, push it to one side, the diagram above shows the stat 15-171, two bolts from underneath, & pull out the stat. Check all the other hoses while you're at it, I reckon the four big ones at least will possibly be ready to go.
