Bongo Fury

We have door problems, firstly the side door does not seem to pull tight it makes a noise and moves a bit but if i push the door it is not flush. When we drive it sounds like the door is open slightly , I have tried to lightly sand and clean the door contacts.
Secondly our back door keeps working loose and opening when we are driving, the catch seems ok and does close when I have looked at it. We shut the door firmly and it feells closed but then works loose.
Any ideas?

On the side door - when it starts to pull itself onto the seal can you hear a motor-like noise?
I pulled this stuff off a fact sheet relating to the sliding door - you may find it useful, if only to eliminate certain things.

Before you do anything at all, check it is not the fuse that has blown. The correct
fuse is situated in the cluster by the driver’s knee, and is on the bottom row, first
15 amp blade fuse on the left.

“Could be the arm between the key lock and the door lock !!!! You'll have to
remove the door panel (no idea how to do it but assume it pulls off) then have a
look and see if the arm is loose. It re-attaches quite easily”.

“Sometimes you have to re-set the arm on the motor (cable attached to it)
......for some reason these sometimes stick halfway through their cycle. But mind
your fingers when it flips back!”

“The other possibility is that the wiring to the lock is shorting out on the chassis.
You can access this wiring either by taking the door panel off or, if you're lucky,
by lifting the electric window switches. Insulation tape placed in strategic places
should solve the problem.”

“It sounds to me like one of the spring loaded contacts has stuck and is not
making contact with its opposite number.”

My side door did this recently. Turned out something was lodged (was it the seat belt buckle? can't remember) in the closing area. Worth checking just in case it is that simple.

Regarding the rear door, could it be the fixing on the floor that the lock latches into - does it need adjusting and/or tightening?

I wonder if your van was owned by a door slammer. The tailgate and where it latches onto the frame are held down by two bolts each. Can these be slackened off to move the plate and make adjustments? You could start experimenting.

Door Slammer - is that a Japanese euphemism?

I had the same trouble as Mike, there, and it turned out to be the trim above the door panel....a couple of self-tappers painted grey did the job.
