Bongo Fury

Hi
When I reach 60mph I feel the steering wheel shudder, as soon as I drop down to 50mph it stops, my mechanic says that it is one of the quirks of a bongo, I am driving 2.5 diesel turbo and apart from filling up with fuel I know nothing about what goes on under the van or the bonnet, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nope, not true! With luck its just the front wheels needing balancing. Might want to check there are no flat spots on the tyres as that has been known to happen occasinally too. My judder went when wheels were balanced. Interestingly, balancing rear wheels also improved smoothness, even at low speeds, as it got rid of excessive rebound on the suspension when on uneven surfaces.

If judder then persists, we'll have to consider other possible causes

"flatted" tyres through lying in one place too long
damaged rim

Wheels best balanced by mounting on the balancer by the wheel stud holes rather than the centres

I'd the same problem - it can be sorted, they aren't all that way, mechanic talking shoite

Most likely wheels need a balance but also had the same just before a wishbone needed replacing.

Had the same , wheels all ok, found the power steering fluid was very low. Topped up and sorted! Apart from the steering rack leak!!

changed the original Jap tyres and the 'jobs a good un'

Me to, I even had the rear seats vibrating and squeeking, wheel balance sorted it.

Sure did, that was after a garage fitted new tyres and wheels all around , still haven't found my teeth.

Ditto, ditto.

Sometimes, ill fitting alloys can be a problem particularly if they need spigot rings (or havent had them fitted). The centre of the hub should fit sug on the centre of the wheel with no movement even before you do up any wheel nuts. This just came to mind as I sold a set of alloys to a chap who had multifit steel wheels and they were a terrible fit...he was having lots of wheel wobble (not wonder ) and having them balanced didnt help.

Oh and welcome [/Thanks for all replies, I will start by getting wheels balanced, I did have the rear tyres change a couple of weeks ago but I have only been local and not reached 60mph]

Good luck. Lots of good suggestions from various peeps on here. Should keep you busy working out which one of them it is
