Can anybody tell me where I can get a free top seal I notice that mine has perished and starting to split. Also are they difficult to fit? it looks as though they push into place like a normal car door surround. Thanks folks, The people here are very helpful so thanks again. Pete

Which seal are you referring to ?
- There is the seal between the lower tent frame and the roof of the vehicle itself - that's a strip of "sticky back foam" which I've replaced see here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=34592
- I guess there is a seal of some type on the top tent frame to the GRP, although I have replaced some of the screw fixings I didn't notice a seal as such.
- and finally I guess the seal between the AFT top and the vehicle roof, but that seems to be some sticky back material that folds over the edge of the roof itself.

Good enquiry Pete as I think it will come up more and more. Mine is a tad tired in one small spot and I'm trying to think whether it could be stabilised by rubbing e.g. Evostick or tyre repair solvent into it to 're-rubberise' it a bit and close the cracks from more freeze-thaw/moisture ingress.
But otherwise, its time we started a debate on here about how to replace old ones

Hi
I've used these folk since the 60's:-
http://www.rubbertrim.co.uk/
I had posted a link on here before, but darned if I can find it
Clip off a bit of what you want, and send it to them....and temporarily seal the bit you cut off with some tape.....order a tad more than you measure, plus a bit for spare.
Cheers
Helen

Good tip Hellen.
I occurs to me it might be possible to make a mould using e.g. polyfilla then a sample using e.g. bath sealant rather than having to damage the existing seal? Need to tell them if you think the existing seal is a hollow (I think it is) x-section.

Hi
If it's hollow, Mike, you need to get a piece of connector tubing to go in the hollow section...not forgetting to use rubber cement when assembling....also, cut a little longer than you want, and force the edges together. When fitted, keep the rubber talc-ed.
Cheers

The seal I refer to is the rubber one that squashes under the lift up roof to seal to the vehicle roof when it closes. I have not studied it and was hoping somebody might have done it all before.

Hi
That firm I posted the link to carry all that sort of stuff. It's an easy job , and anyone can do it , but make sure you buy too much, as you can't stretch it if you don't buy enough
Cheers

Try JustKampers - they stock trim for the various VW pop-tops. I had a look at their catalogue a year or so back & it looked as if either the general purpose seal for Dormobiles/Vikings/Devons or the general purpose Westfalia seal (right-angled) would fit. Can't remember which one it was now, but I've a feeling that the Bongo seal might be right-angled. Too dark & late now to go out & raise the roof to check I'm afraid

Good thought there Rhod
Maybe we should drop then a hint that Bongo ones might sell well before too long should they decide to put one in their catalogue
Can you recall what prices were like (roughly?) (I'm off to google them and see if I can find out online)

Westfalia one looks like it might be 45GBP on their very interesting looking site at:
http://www.justkampers.com/search2?loca ... filter[]=0
Fingers crossed we might get something sorted for Bongos at an affordable price (though I reckon it must be rather more than that figure

)
I wonder how easy it would be to remove the old and fit the new
