Bongo Fury

Today we noticed some spots of rust on the flat section of the wheel arch where the body folds in obove the wheel, also a tiny spot creeping onto the rear of the arch where it meets the body....shall we paint it after treating it.....you can't see it unless you bend down and really look for it....we can't afford a body shop at present.

Might be too late, mines in the garage at the moment for similar.

Best tip is to spray waxoyl, engine oil or dinitrol inside the panels via the indicator cable holes and the cubby tray holes in the inside side panels.

Temptation is to poke at the rust. If you do this then scrape, grind and rust treat then paint and fill - it will be back though.

Cutting out, replacing new metal and spraying is about £150 to £250 an arch. Another option is to treat it locally, keep an eye on it and fit the plastic arches the club sells?

If you mean just on the inside of the rim, I ground off the rust back to bare metal with a dremmel and fine glass paper, then primered with anti-rust primer, before painting myself. I then lacquered with quite a few layers. There was no sign of rust getting between the skins and nothing has come back.

If you can afford it, I'd get it done by a pro since my job isn't blended very well to the surrounding paint (it's hard with a spray can at the best of times).

I also cleaned out the small gaps between the skins accessible fron the wheel arch and sprayed liberally with waxoil.
